Weekly Cleaning Schedule For The Homestead

Cleaning hasn’t always been my forte. Sure, let me loose around the homestead and I can get tons of things done. But cleaning our home is another thing altogether for me. There are days when I feel that I just can’t keep up with all the dirt and mess that’s accumulating around the house. Have you ever had that feeling? Well if you’re just as lost as I am, I have the solution. This weekly cleaning schedule will do you wonders – just stick to it and cleaning will be a breeze!

Hassle-Free Weekly Cleaning Schedule

1. Do what you can do in 20 minutes. It doesn’t need to look perfect.2. Don’t waste time gathering cleaning supplies, store them close.

  • Store rags and cleaning products in each bathroom.
  • Store kitchen cleaning supplies under the sink.

3. Make a list of everyday cleaning tasks.

  • Make the bed
  • Manage clutter
  • Sort the mail
  • Clean as you cook
  • Sweep the kitchen floor

4. Hold yourself accountable.

  • Make a laminated printable and cross off items, or use an app.

Monday: Bathrooms

1. Launder (coincide with your launder schedule)

  • Rugs
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Hand towels

2. Clean

  • Toilets
  • Bathtubs
  • Showers
  • Sinks
  • Dust light fixtures
  • Wipe mirrors
  • Empty and clean trash bins
  • Vacuum and mop floors

Tuesday: Bedrooms

1. Launder (coincide with your laundry schedule)

  • Sheets
  • Mattress Covers
  • Blankets

2. Empty And Clean Trash Bins

  • Wash trash bin first with dish soap, then with a vinegar/water rinse
  • Once dry, sprinkle a few tablespoons of baking soda into the bottom of the bin to absorb any odor from the bag.

3. Dust

  • Furniture
  • Home décor
  • Light fixtures

4. Vacuum Floors

Wednesday: Living Room

1. Pick Up

  • Toys
  • Magazines and books
  • Dirty dishes

2. Dust

  • Furniture
  • Home décor
  • Light fixtures
  • Electronics

3. Fluff and rotate sofa cushions4. Vacuum upholstery and floor

Thursday: Kitchen

1. Wipe Down

  • Sink
  • Countertops
  • Outside of ventilation hood
  • Refrigerator
  • Cupboard doors
  • Small appliances

2. Discard old food and beverages (coincide with grocery shopping)3. Wipe down the inside of

  • Oven
  • Toaster oven
  • Microwave
    • Fill a bowl with water
    • Microwave for 2-3 minutes
    • Steam loosens dried-on food particles for easy cleaning

4. Empty and clean trash and recycling bins5. Vacuum and mop floor

Friday: Entryways, Stairs, And Hallways

1. Launder

  • Throw rugs
  • Runners

2. Dust

  • Staircase banisters
  • Furniture
  • Home décor
  • Light fixtures

3. Wipe Mirrors

  • Dip a lint-free cloth in a pot of strongly brewed black tea, rub in circles on mirror
  • Dry with a fresh cloth
  • Tannic acid in tea makes mirrors shine

4. Vacuum and mop floors

Saturday: Dining Room

1. Dust

  • Furniture
  • Home décor and glassware
  • Light fixtures

2. Vacuum upholstery and floor

  • Use the upholstery attachment on vacuum to clean furniture
  • Work in short strokes left to right
  • For tight crevices, like button tufting, use a can of compressed air to remove dust

Sunday: Home Office

1. Dust

  • Furniture
  • Home décor
  • Light fixtures
  • Electronics

2. Sort through in-boxes

  • Pay bills
  • Sort miscellaneous paperwork
  • Empty and clean trash bin
  • File paid bills
    • Label a 13-pocket accordion file with tabs for each month of the year
    • The last slot is for the year’s tax return
    • As bill are paid, file them under the appropriate month

Avoid spending an entire day cleaning with this weekly schedule. Your house will be ready for company at a moment’s notice.
