Upholstery Cleaning the Eco-Friendly Way

Cleaning Upholstery the Eco-Friendly Way

Cleaning the upholstery in your home is not among the easiest chores, but it has to be done. Nothing quite captures the attention like beautiful looking furniture, which is always the case when the upholstery is looking perfect. If you haven’t researched effective methods of upholstery cleaning, you best do so without delay.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you can’t just pour whatever product you have on your upholstery and expect it to work. One of the best solution is to learn how to clean in an eco-friendly manner, which is not only good for your upholstery, but also for the environment in your home. Getting no toxins during domestic cleaning is important, and so is getting a stain off your upholstery, without risk for the fabric. Read on the following tips for effective cleaning methods and adopt them, as they can truly make a difference.

General cleaning

Before we delve deeper into the methods of cleaning specific stains, it is best to learn the importance of regular cleaning. The most basic chore you must be regular at is simple vacuum cleaning. Use the cleaner to get dust off your cushions and make sure you do it often as that will prevent spoils from accumulating deep within the fabrics.

Act fast in case of a stain

Acting fast when staining occurs is of vital importance of easily resolving the issue. Whatever happens, remember that there is no room for panic, nor is there time to waste on waiting for a specialized cleaning service. The more you wait, the harder it gets to remove the stain later on. Now, let’s get into the specifics.

Coffee stains

One eco-friendly solution that people have reported as very effective is mixing egg yolk and luke warm water. Armed with that solution, you only need to rub gently at the spot, which will eventually come off.

Red wine stains

You have to admit that nothing looks more frightening than spilling red wine on your upholstery. The first thing you have to do is to blot the excess liquid as much as possible. Next, proceed by mixing a cup of hydrogen peroxide with some dish soap. Again, use the blotting technique to apply the solution and watch as the red wine stain shrink and eventually become non-existent. Best part is this method works wonders for clothing and carpet cleaning too.

General stain removal

It pays to be prepared with a recipe for general cleaning and one such that has proven effective is water/shampoo mix. Additionally, you can whip up a container of a 50:50 mix of water and dish detergent, which has also proven effective.

Steam upholstery cleaning

One of the most effective and eco-friendly methods of cleaning the upholstery in your home is steam cleaning. It uses only water and gets the job done in a perfect manner—it penetrates deep within the fibers, thoroughly cleaning the spoils in the process. Only thing to consider is that you need to have the machinery for it. Alternatively, you could just hire upholstery cleaners to get the job done.

Knowing how to clean your upholstery in an eco-friendly manner goes a long way. It will keep the interior of your room looking fresh and clean, without introducing you to toxic chemicals and solutions.
