Signs Of A Heart Attack You Must Recognize
More than 1 million Americans suffer a heart attack every year. Traditional symptoms—chest pain or pressure, cold sweat, extreme weakness—are well known. But there are more subtle signs you’re having or are about to have a heart attack that can be easy to miss. If you experience any of the following symptoms, see a doctor. Noticing heart attack signs early and getting prompt treatment can save your life.
A heart attack is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S.A. It can strike someone down in about 43 seconds. It happens when the blood stream that conveys oxygen to the heart muscle is extremely reduced or totally cut off. This occurs when the arteries that supply the heart with blood can slowly clog from the accumulation of cholesterol, fat, and other substances. If you, or somebody you are with, happens to have these symptoms of a heart attack, this is an emergency and must not be ignored.
Symptoms Are Not Generally Obvious
Foreseeing a heart attack before it occurs can be a challenge. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC, almost two-thirds of women who suddenly die because of coronary heart disease have no previous signs of heart attack. It seems to happen out of the blue as many people chalk up the early signs to non-life threatening conditions, such as flu, acid reflux, or normal aging.
There are still tons of people who think that the signs of a heart attack are definite and unmistakable, but the truth is they can be vague, and more often, confusing.
We normally affiliate chest pain with a heart attack, and for good reason, however, it's not the entire story. We need to be on a lookout for other, more subtle signs.
A difficulty of breathing or shortness of breath, as though you've just run a marathon, but you have not moved even an inch. Dizziness and feeling light-headed, vomiting or nausea, indigestion or a feeling of heartburn, and even sweating are other symptoms to look for as these are potential heart attack symptoms.
Take Care Of Yourself
As the saying goes “prevention is better than cure”, a heart attack can be avoided. By knowing the warning signs and symptoms and seeking medical care immediately, you may be able to prevent or lessen the severity of a heart attack. Take note of these healthy tips and start applying them to yourself and family.
- Take some time to visit your physician and get to know your personal risk for heart disease.
- Start an exercise program, now! As simple as 30 minutes of walking per day can help lower the risk of heart attack.
- Modify your family's diet if necessary. Find out smart food swaps, healthy snacking ideas, and better food preparation methods.
