Clean House in 10 Minutes

Clean House in 10 Minutes

By Beverly Jenkins of  Tidy Maids

Ever had guests pop by unannounced; to add salt to the injury, this was also a time when your home wasn’t clean or tidy. We’ve all been there, but what do you do? Let’s hope the guest was courteous enough to give you a 10-minute warning. Here is how you can get your house cleaned up and ready for company in just 10 minutes.

Now, this is not the time to clean your entire home. No! You just want to make your home presentable enough to shun that feeling of embarrassment when your guests are around. In this case, a suitable idea is to fix those conspicuous areas or rooms within your house.

There are several culprits here. These are the living room, the toilet, and the kitchen. Not just because they are clutter hotspots, but also for the one reason that your guests will move about these rooms, especially the toilet and living room. The kitchen ought to be convenient for you to serve your guests without distraction or hindrances.

1. Clean House In 10 Minutes | Organize the living room

|

Collect any items lying around such as kid’s toys, clothes or shoes and put them out of sight. There may be books, remote control, newspapers or envelopes lying on the coffee table; put these in their respective places. You can also get some baskets and stash the different items depending on where they belong, for future storage.

Once through with de-cluttering, do a quick vacuuming of the area rug. This helps get rid of small particles and dust. In addition, you need a quick sweep on your sofa to remove any pet dander. Otherwise, your living area is hardly clean if the coach is still covered with pet hair. Remember to fluff the throw pillows before placing them back in their right position.

However, do not forget to dust off your TV. This is because guests in your living room are likely to gaze at the tv every so often. Don’t allow the clinging dust or disorderly DVD boxes sell you out in regard to the level of cleanliness in your home. Once through, allow some fresh air and light in the house by opening the windows.

2. Clean House In 10 Minutes | Fix your kitchen

|

Begin by clearing the countertops of any unwanted items. Sugar and salt dishes, food, cleaning supplies and others; get them off your countertops. You can quickly place them in their respective shelves or pantry. Empty the sinks of any utensils by putting them in the dishwasher.

Next, take a disinfectant wipe or any cloth with your favourite multipurpose cleaner and clear any dirt on the countertops. Be careful to remove any spills that may have occurred on the cupboards or walls before. Splash some water on the sink to drive away any spills and dry it as well. You may need to give your kitchen a quick sweep before emptying the litter bins. Finish by lining up your bins with a clean paper.

Bonus points if you whip something up in a flash!

3. Clean House In 10 Minutes  |  Take care of the toilet

|

Your visitors are likely to visit this room during their stay in the house. It is a bit obvious, isn’t it? But you don’t know what you can do within such a quick notice. Below are some helpful ideas.

Since you’re just doing a quick clean up, you may not kill all the germs, but it will leave your toilet looking clean and presentable, as well as smelling fresh. Grab your toilet cleaning gloves, all-purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner and brush, and some paper towels.

With your gloves in place, slide the toilet bowl cleaner container nozzle under the rim and squeeze out a considerable amount. Apply the cleaning agent around the rim and make sure there is enough amount of it in the bowl as well. Give it a few seconds to break dirt and germs. In the meantime, you can pour your multipurpose cleaner on the toilet seat, exterior bowl, the lid (both sides), flusher, and the tank cover.

As the all-purpose cleaner works on these surfaces, get your bowl brush and scrub thoroughly around the rim, as you move in swirls down the chute. Flush the toilet with the brush in place so you do not need to clean it again. Use the paper cloths to quickly wipe the exterior surfaces, which you had sprayed with the all-purpose cleaner.

Make your own household cleaners here.

Check to see if everything else is in place. You can also walk around the house to see if the most important areas are all set for your guests.
