9 Fun, Creative Wooden Playhouse Your Kids Will Love!
1. Miniature Wooden Suburban Home
Make a miniature suburban home in your suburban home’s backyard! This is one of the best playhouse plans for kids who love to play pretend family with their friends.
To make your mini-suburban home playhouse, you’ll need spare wooden pallets, chemical-free paint, and your handyman tools. Feel free to color the exterior any way you want.
Also, opt to make your own faux furniture and appliances to make the house look more realistic. Throw in a miniature stove, dining table, and washing machine, among others.
2. All Hands on Deck!
Are your kids in love with pirate movies? Then this pirate wooden boat playhouse is perfect for them!
As the name suggests, it’s an open playhouse built in the shape of a pirate boat. For this project, you’ll need your handyman tools, spare wooden pallets, red and black paint, and a cloth for the pirate flag.
To make the playhouse more exciting, let your kid choose the flag’s design. The basic jolly roger is great and all, but not everyone appreciates it. Some kids might even be scared of it.
3. Castle-Style Wooden Playhouse
This miniature wooden castle is the perfect play area for all kinds of kids’ parties. It’s very versatile and the kids can come up with multiple characters to roleplay.
For example, let’s say your son is celebrating his sixth birthday. The birthday celebrant can play the king, the tall kids can serve as the knights, siblings can be fellow kings and queens, while the smaller kids can be princes and princesses.
Trust us, this castle is all your kids need to come up with all kinds of crazy stories and fantasies.
4. Miniature Backyard Restaurant
Do your kids always get kitchen and dining playsets every year for Christmas? Why not put them to use by building a miniature wooden restaurant playhouse in your backyard!
To make the restaurant more realistic, we suggest making multiple dine-in and takeout counters on the side of the playhouse. Apart from making the playhouse look cooler, your kids can also invite their friends over to play in it.
Of course, don't actually put any cooking utensils in there. Kids shouldn't be exposed to hazardous items such as knives, gas, pans, and porcelain plates.
Pro Tip: Having trouble coming up with a design to follow? Ask your kids what their favorite restaurant is so you’ll know what to pattern your blueprints after.
5. Oldschool Treehouse
Take your kids on a trip to the past by building them their own old school classic treehouse! All you’ll need for the project are your handyman tools, some spare wooden pallets, and of course, a large tree to build your hanging treehouse on.
When building your treehouse, make sure not to cut corners. Safety should be of utmost importance. Use only the highest quality materials and choose to build the treehouse on a sturdy tree such as oak, cedar, hemlock, beech, or apple.
Just imagine how big of a disaster it’d be if the hanging treehouse suddenly collapsed. It could lead to some serious long-term injuries.

6. Pallet DIY Playhouse
Don’t have that many materials for a wooden playhouse except for some spare pallets? Not to worry!
Even with limited tools and materials, you can still build a fun, exciting play area for your kids. All you need is a bit of creativity and imagination.
A great generic, simple example to draw inspiration from would be the classic wooden playhouse. It does not mimic anything specific. The only specs you need to follow is that it has to be enclosed by walls and roofing for safety purposes.
7. Ultimate Warrior Wooden Playhouse
If your kid is the athletic, outdoorsy type, then this playhouse is perfect for them! It’s a complete play area equipped with a mini rock climbing wall, some ropes, tires, and other challenges you might see on ultimate warrior gameshows.
Note, however, that this project is a bit more complicated than the other ones on this list. You’ll also need a lot more tools and materials.
If you’re not confident in your handyman and woodworking skills, it’s best to seek help from an experienced craftsman. You might end up spending a few hundred bucks more. However, it’s all worth it knowing your kids are playing in a 100% safe and sturdy playhouse.
8. Playhouse for Aspiring Doctors
Most kids show interest in the medical field at a very early age. In fact, you’ll hear a lot of seven-year-olds saying they’d want to a doctor, nurse, or surgeon when they grow up.
Whether they push through with their plans is a decision they won’t have to make for another decade or two. In the meantime, however, you can support their dreams by building them their own mini-hospital.
Make it big enough to accommodate friends, siblings, and cousins who want to play along and act as their patients.
9. Elegant Girlish Playhouse
Looking to make something girlier? Try this elegant, pink-coated wooden playhouse design! It’s the perfect play area for kids who are into girly, feminine toys.
To make the playhouse more special, try adding a small rack inside. That way, your kids will have a place to showcase their favorite dolls and toys in.
