Having a first aid kit is important in every home. We can't really avoid the scrapes and bumps, especially if you have kids around. I'm sure you have the usual cotton, alcohol, bandages and the like, but did you know there are a few other items you can use. Yes, there are some unsuspecting things around your home you can use in case of an emergency and some are even revolutionary. 1. Super Glue
What do you normally use super glue for? For gluing stuff of course! But did you know you can use this for an emergency? It's a great way to help seal up wounds to stop bleeding if you don't have anything else around. Read more about it here.
2. Tampons and Maxi Pads
A girl's best friend. Any lady knows about how absorbent it is; can you imagine using a tampon to plug bullet hole wounds and maxi pads as wound dressing? Well if that's all you have, go ahead. They even made tampon as an inspiration in this great invention:
3. Flexible Drinking Straw
Don't underestimate the power of the bendy drinking straw. For an emergency situation where the patient is unable to get up, this item will be very useful in providing much-needed fluid.
4. Whiskey, Bourbon or Other Spirits
In case you're not aware, the alcohol in your liquor cabinet contains disinfectant properties. In situations where you don't have anything else available, this could save your life.
5. Safety Pins

6. Tongue Depressors
You know it's primary use, to depress the tongue. But if you have a broken finger, it's the best thing you can use as a splint to immobilize it.
7. Hand Sanitizer
This provides a quick and simple solution to sanitize your hands and even in some cases, wounds. It's a great means to protect you from illnesses and can also help you have clean hands when soap and water aren't available. Cleanliness is key.
8. Hazardous Waste Garbage Bags
You'll never know when an epidemic may spread. Be prepared all the time with hazardous waste garbage bags, and keep infections and toxic chemicals from spreading.
9. Liquid Bandage
This is a step up from the super glue I mentioned earlier. This acts as a liquid bandage, sealing in the infection and providing an antiseptic. It's a topical skin treatment you can apply to cuts and wounds and within minutes, it dries into a bandage. Read more about it here.
