How to Make Herbal Salve
I just love making homemade products I can use all the time. That's why when I found out that you can make herbal salve with any essential oil in just 5 easy steps, I just couldn't wait to share it with all of you.
Salve is commonly used for bruises, insect bites, rashes, burns and as a moisturizer. By creating your homemade salve you can decide what kind you need or go with the all purpose healing salve. It will be all up to you. But I suggest for you to do some research too about the oils and herbs you want to use.
On this tutorial we will be making a very simple salve with lavender oil. Here are the things you will need!
- 1 cup olive oil
- 1 oz. beeswax
- 1 tsp. lavender oil
- small container or jars
- double boiler
- measuring spoon
- pot holder
- stirrer
Step 1. Boil water.
Simmer water in the double boiler. If you don't have any double boiler, you can alternatively use a sauce pan and steel bowl.
Step 2. Melt the beeswax.
Put the beeswax in the boiling water and allow it to dissolve.
Step 3. Add olive oil.
Add the olive oil and mix it well until it has a fluid consistency.
Step 4. Transfer.
Transfer the mixture into a measuring cup.
Add 2 tsp of oil then stir. You can also add a few drops of essential oil after you transfer it to the container. Whichever you prefer will be work.
Step 5. Store.
Transfer the salve mixture immediately into your container of choice as it easily hardens.
Easy right? Now you can store it away and have it ready when needed. If you'd like to see how it's done, just watch this video tutorial from mountain rose herbs:
