Japanese Sushi Chain Bought A $117,00 Bluefin Tuna For Good Luck

When it comes to the buying the finest sushi, this Japanese sushi chain is not kidding around.

The Japanese fishmarket is closing down and relocating, and this was the first auction of the year where buyers are known to spend the big bucks on prize fish for good luck. This auction was also the final one held at the famous Tsukiji fish market before closing down to reopen in a new location this November.

Japanese sushi chain pays $117,000 for a tuna. Yes, one tuna.

TOKYO – If you thought your last sushi bill was expensive, check this out. Sushi Zanmai, a Japanese restaurant chain, just paid $117,000 for a 441-pound bluefin tuna. Yes, you read that right. That’s $265 per pound. But this was not just any fish.

“It makes it even more memorable [to win the auction] considering that this is the final year,” Mr. Kimura said.

How much would you spend on a prize fish? Would you be willing to spend more knowing it meant good luck for the whole year?
